Double closet rod – Take advantage of the unused space under your shirts, skirts and pants. Double the hanging space in your closet by installing double closet rods. It is easy to make and requires no power tools. Measure the distance between the two walls in your closet rod that will span.
Installing double closet rod, make a mark that shows where you will install the upper rod. Normally you install the top rods about 65 inches above the floor. Raise the height by installing the upper rod 6 to 12 inches higher, if possible, to give you more vertically hanging area for both rods. Then, select the location to install the lower closet rod, about half the height of the upper rod.
In addition, install double closet rod brackets on one side of the closet in two heights you marked off. Place the bracket in place and fasten it to the wall with screws. Attach it to the wooden framing studs in the wall or wood hook rail which is installed in most closets at about the height of the upper rod. And then, tape a small level to the closet rod. Insert it into the top bracket. Determine the point on the opposite side of the closet to fasten clothes rail by adjusting the height of the pole until the level reads level. Then, mark the location with a pencil.
